A Unit of Work provides a procedural frame of reference that helps to organize the coaching intervention, in three stages:

  • Assessing what is – heightening awareness of various sensations.
  • Choosing what to attend to – identify where energy is
    available to articulate issues/themes.
  • Acting on the choice – confirm discoveries and experiment
    with design for a next step.

A successful Unit of Work creates energy that is sustained and purposeful. However, taking small steps, clearly identified and well supported, is crucial. Sometimes a clear Unit of Work is not present. When that happens, it is okay to muddle about too
